Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a condition caused by an imbalance in the bacteria that are normally present in the vagina. It is often accompanied by vaginal discharge with a "fishy" odor, itching, pain, and burning. Factors that can make a woman more likely to develop this infection include having multiple sex partners, not using a condom, and douching. Treatment for bacterial vaginosis usually consists of a course of antibiotics.
