Drugs That React With Amprenavir

Amprenavir Interactions Explained

The following sections explain in detail the potentially negative interactions that can occur when amprenavir is combined with any of the drugs listed above.

Alcohol
If you take amprenavir oral solution (but not capsules), you should not drink alcoholic beverages. Amprenavir oral solution contains propylene glycol, which can cause problems if it is taken with alcohol.

Antacids
Antacids can decrease the level of amprenavir in your blood. In order to avoid this interaction, you should separate antacids and amprenavir by at least one hour.

Arrhythmia Medications
Amprenavir may increase the level of certain arrhythmia medications in your blood, possibly increasing the risk of dangerous side effects. Talk with your healthcare provider before taking amprenavir with one of these medications.

Certain Antibiotics or Antifungals
Combining amprenavir with certain antibiotics or antifungals may increase the level of the antibiotic or antifungal in your blood. Check with your healthcare provider before taking amprenavir with any of these medications. It should never be combined with rifampin, as rifampin can make amprenavir less effective.

Certain Benzodiazepines
Amprenavir should not be combined with midazolam or triazolam, due to the risk of life-threatening reactions. It may be combined with other benzodiazepines, although your healthcare provider may need to decrease the dose of your benzodiazepine to prevent interactions.

Certain Calcium Channel Blockers
Amprenavir may increase the level of calcium channel blockers in your blood, possibly increasing the risk of side effects. Your healthcare provider may need to lower the dose of your calcium channel blocker to prevent this.
