Amethyst™ (levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol) is a prescription birth control pill. This form of contraception is known as a combined oral contraceptive, as it contains both an estrogen and a progestin hormone. It is taken daily and works to prevent pregnancy by stopping ovulation, altering the cervical mucus, and changing the lining of the uterus. Before prescribing it, your healthcare provider will consider several factors, including other medical conditions you may have and other medications you are taking.
