Drug Interactions With Abacavir/Lamivudine/Zidovudine

Medications that may cause drug interactions with abacavir/lamivudine/zidovudine include atovaquone, probenecid, methadone, and ganciclovir. These interactions can increase the level of abacavir/lamivudine/zidovudine in your blood, which may increase your risk of developing side effects. To help prevent negative drug interactions, be sure to tell your healthcare provider about all other medicines you are currently taking.

 

Abacavir/Lamivudine/Zidovudine Drug Interactions: An Introduction

Abacavir/lamivudine/zidovudine (Trizivir®) can potentially interact with several other medicines. Some of these medicines that may lead to abacavir/lamivudine/zidovudine interactions include:
 
  • Alcohol
  • Atovaquone (Mepron®)
  • Doxorubicin (Adriamycin®, Doxil®, Evacet™)
  • Fluconazole (Diflucan®)
  • Ganciclovir (Cytovene®)
  • Interferon medications, such as:

 

    • Interferon alfa-2a (Roferon®-A)
    • Interferon alfa-2b (Intron® A)
    • Interferon alfa-2b and ribavirin (Rebetron®)
    • Interferon alfa-n3 (Alferon® N)
    • Interferon alfacon-1 (Infergen®)
    • Interferon beta-1a (Avonex®, Rebif®)
    • Interferon beta-1b (Betaseron®)
    • Interferon gamma-1b (Actimmune®)
    • Peginterferon alfa-2a (Pegasys®)
    • Peginterferon alfa-2b (PEG-Intron®)
